PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND USES
AC the art of concrete 30% Silane Penetrating Acrylic Sealer is a VOC Compliant, premium high quality, durable, abrasion resistant, single component silane Based, 30% acrylic solids sealer. This sealer is designed for use on any cementitious surface for protection and highlighting colour.
It is vapour permeable and will apply out of doors readily. This sealer is formulated for Canada’s extreme freeze/thaw cycles. Because of this sealer’s superior silane formulation, it will penetrate deeply into the concrete’s surface, therefore intensifying the bond with the concrete and slowing moisture migration and efflorescence.
The high quality solvents will give the user ample working time when applying AC the art of concrete 30% Penetrating Sealer. A single coat will provide protection for the concrete while providing UV protection, enhancing the beauty and colour of the concrete.
AC the art of concrete sealers can be used on any concrete surface including driveways, patios, walkways, stairs, garages, pool decks and even stucco. This sealer will provide a semi-gloss finish to your concrete surface.
PACKAGING
AC the art of concrete 30% Penetrating Sealer is available in 3.78L and 18.9L containers and is a ready to use formulation.
COVERAGE
AC the art of concrete 30% Penetrating Sealer will cover 150 - 185 square feet per gallon. (700-900 square feet per 5 gallon pail) depending on the surface finish and porosity of the substrate.
PLANNING AND SURFACE PREP
AC the art of concrete 30% Penetrating Sealer must be applied to dry, clean concrete. The concrete should be fully cured (28 days or older). The concrete and ambient air temperature should be above 10°C and below 32°C.
This product is flammable. If applying indoors, please turn off fuel sources such as heaters, furnaces and water heater pilot lights. Provide ventilation so that vapours do not accumulate and wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) such as, but not limited to: respirators, gloves and safety goggles.
CLEAN AND DRY: All surfaces must be clean and free of all contaminants such as dust, dirt, oils, paint, glue, rust, algae, mildew, non-acrylic coatings and any other foreign matter that may be a bond breaker.
This should include and flaking or loose sealers from previous applications. Use of a light acid cleaner can be used for this purpose. Allow 24 hours for the substrate to dry before sealing.
SURFACE CONDITION: All concrete substrates should be sound with no hollow spots, scaling or flaking. All delaminated material should be completely removed. Shot blasting, grinding and/or scarifying should be done in those areas.
SUBSTRATE PROFILING: The Concrete substrate should be profiled according to the CSP (Concrete Surface Profile) standards of between 1 and 2. This can be attained through mechanical means such as grinding, sand blasting or light scarifying or chemically through the use of a light cleaning acid and pressure washing.
RECOATING: If this sealer is being used to recoat concrete, it should only be used if the previous coating was a solvent based acrylic formula. This product should never be applied over water based acrylics.
If the previous product is unknown, a xylene test (see below) may be used to determine the type. A small test area should be used to determine compatibility of solvents. If solvents are not compatible, blistering, peeling or delamination may occur.
XYLENE TESTING (If needed): For this test, you will need Xylene, paper towel and plastic. Put a small amount of xylene on the paper towel and place that on the concrete. Cover the paper towel with plastic and allow to sit for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, a solvent based acrylic will feel slippery. A water based acrylic will be a slimy mess that can be scraped off easily.
MASKING: All areas that are not intended to receive AC the art of concrete 30% Penetrating Sealer, should be protected by masking. Protect vegetation and landscaping.
TOUCH-UP: Finish all touch-up work prior to sealing. This includes cleaning, detailing and colouring.
PLANNING: The substrate must be dry for all steps, 24 hours before, during and 24 hours after application. Application of AC the art of concrete 30% Penetrating Sealer should be avoided on extremely cold or hot days (if the temperature will not be within the aforementioned ranges for 12-24 hours after application). Do not apply if rain, snow or hail is being forecast for the 24 hour period after application.
Both the concrete and the ambient air temperature should be between 10°C and 32°C during application.
MIXING: This product does not need any mixing.
APPLICATION:
ROLLING:
- Use a bucket grid or metal paint tray to ensure application of a thin film. (No puddling of product)
- Roller sleeves will require a solvent resistant core.
- Thickness of roller sleeve will depend on the substrate being covered. A rougher surface will require a longer nap. A smooth cementitious surface such as a garage floor will require a 6 mil roller sleeve. Broom finished concrete, light exposed aggregate or a shallow stamped concrete will require a 10 mill roller sleeve. Deep exposed aggregate or a deep stamped concrete will require a 19 mil roller sleeve.
- Back rolling will help to eliminate roller lines. Back rolling should be done perpendicular to application.
SPRAYING:
- The airless sprayer used should be capable of spraying 1.0 gallons per minute (GPM) with a 65° fan tip size of between .015 to .019”. Maintain a wet edge between passes.
- A pump-up sprayer may also be used. The sprayer MUST be a solvent resistant sprayer. A sprayer tip of 1.0 gallons per minute should be sufficient to apply this product. Back-rolling may be used.
A single coat is usually sufficient for most applications. However, if your substrate looks “blotchy or uneven” after the first coat, a second coat may be applied. Wait for the first coat to dry sufficiently so that you may walk on it. If a second coat is required, it can be applied exactly as the first coat.
Please allow the proper amount of cure time after applying sealer. For foot traffic allow 24 hours. For vehicular traffic allow 72 hours.
CLEAN UP:
Before AC the art of concrete 30% Penetrating Sealer dries, solvents such as Xylene or Acetone may be used.
