AC the art of concrete water based stains are a Water Based, Semi-transparent Concrete Stain

AC the art of concrete water based stains are used to enhance the colour of natural concrete or cement-based overlay systems. In doing this, they create beautiful, unique, and one of a kind decorative concrete finishes. These water-based stains create a natural colour variation in your concrete surface that is similar to Acid Stains, but without the harsh chemical acid fumes, neutralizing or cleanup after staining. These pigments are UV stable and suitable for use indoors and outdoors and will provide long-lasting colour when sealed and maintained with a top coat.

AC water based stains are enhanced with a non-acrylic based bonding agent that improves colour durability even before the sealer or top coat is applied, and does not impede the bonding or penetration of the sealer or top coat with the concrete.

AC water based stains can be used by themselves, mixed together, or applied in multiple layers to create surfaces that emulate the look of natural materials such as stone, slate and wood.

COVERAGE

One gallon of prepared AC water based stain will cover between 200—250 square feet, depending on the porosity of the surface.

AC water based stains can be diluted with less or more water as required by the final design. Less diluted colour will appear less transparent. More diluted colour may appear less intense and more transparent.

Follow moisture testing guidelines for the selected top coat

     SUBSTRATE PREPARATION 

Follow the recommended surface preparation instructions for the topcoat being applied. AC water based stains should be applied to properly prepared surfaces. Surfaces should be porous enough for the stain to be able to penetrate properly. A     CSP-1 to CSP-2 is recommended. Surfaces should be tested before the stain is applied.

The Top Coat (or Sealer Coat) protects the stain by penetrating the surface of the concrete, bonding to the concrete, and encapsulating the stain. If the concrete is not properly prepared, the topcoat may fail or delaminate. As it does, it may take the stain colour with it.    

 MIXING INSTRUCTIONS

AC water based stains are available in 4oz. ready to use containers and 32oz. concentrate.  Shake and mix the containers thoroughly before use. This will evenly distribute the pigment throughout the liquid. The 4oz. will be ready to use at this point.

32oz. concentrates should be mixed with 3 more quarts (96 oz.) of water before use.  You should always dilute the full container of stain. Partial dilutions may create uneven colour pigmentation in subsequent mixings. Pour partial container of stain into mixing container and vigorously shake the remaining stain in the original container before adding that stain to the mixing container. Add water to the original bottle, filling half way. Shake thoroughly before adding more water to fill the original container. This should be done each time the container is refilled with water (3 times total with water).

One container of stain plus 3 containers of water will create one gallon of useable stain. The stain is now ready to use, unless you would like a slightly less intense colour or would like to create more highs and lows by layering. Diluting the stains can create unexpected results.  Test the colour before using the diluted formulation. 

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Always test colour before application. AC water based stain results can vary depending on colour used and the porosity of the concrete surface.

AC water based stain can be applied with a brush, sponges, rags, or sprayers. Sprayer types can be pump-up sprayers, HVLP sprayers or airless sprayers. Us either a cone or a fan tip that has a fine mist spray.  Keep the sprayer well pressurized for a fine mist spray pattern. Move the sprayer wand in circular motions to create a natural pattern. AC water based stain will react with the natural porosity of the concrete to create a mottled, variegated and natural looking finish.

CLEAN UP

Clean tools, sprayers and mixing containers with soap and water.

 MAINTENANCE

Follow the maintenance guidelines for the sealer that you have selected.

STORAGE

Store in original container protected from direct sunlight in a dry, cool, well-ventilated area away from incompatible materials, food and drink. Protect from temperature extremes.

 DISPOSAL

Recycle and/or dispose of contents and containers in accordance with local, regional, national and international regulations.

SHELF LIFE

Up to one year from original manufacture date when stored in it’s original, unopened container at room temperature. May be extended with reasonable care.

 LIMITATIONS

This product is not intended for public use. It is intended for use by qualified professional contractors and installers with proper experience and training. Please read the TDS and SDS sheets in full before installation of this product. Apply this product when ambient and concrete temperatures are between 45-90 °F (7-32 °C).

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

For professional use only  Keep out of reach of children and animals     REVIEW SDS and TDS prior to use

IF INHALED: Remove victim to fresh air and keep in a comfortable position for breathing.  Call a Poison centre/doctor if you feel unwell

IF ON SKIN (or hair): Wash contact areas with plenty of soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes.  Launder contaminated clothes before reuse. If skin irritation occurs: Get medical attention.

IF IN EYES: Immediately flush with water for 10 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelid. Check for contact lenses and remove if safe to do so. If irritation occurs, get medical attention

IF SWALLOWED: Do not induce vomiting. Get medical attention if symptoms occur.
