DESCRIPTION
Primer X is a fast-drying, high-performance, low-VOC, water-based, acrylic primer. It is textured to enhance the performance and adhesion of self-leveling underlayments over 100%-solids, epoxy moisture barriers and other nonporous substrates.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
• Dries quickly, in 1 to 2 hours, depending on environmental conditions
• High bond to 100%-solids, epoxy moisture-control membranes
• Low in odor and VOCs for use in interior, occupied environments
WHERE TO USE
• Approved for use over properly installed, completely cured, 100%-solids, epoxy moisture barriers
• Approved for use over properly prepared nonporous substrates
• Interior residential applications (rental apartments, condominiums and homes)
• Interior commercial applications (office buildings, hotel rooms/hallways and restaurant dining areas)
• Interior heavy-commercial applications (hotel lobbies, convention centers, airports and department stores)
• Interior institutional applications (hospitals, schools, universities, libraries and government buildings)
INDUSTRY STANDARDS AND APPROVALS
• CRI Green Label Plus #GLP54548. Refer to the CRI’s Website at www.carpet-rug.org for additional information.
• Living Building Challenge (LBC) Red List Free: This product has been verified per the most current Red List on the LBC’s Website.
LIMITATIONS
• Do not install over any substrates containing asbestos.
• Substrate and ambient temperatures must be between 50°F to 90°F (10°C to 32°C).
• In all cases, the surface temperature of the prepared concrete slab must be at least 5 degrees Fahrenheit (2.8 degrees Celsius) above the dew point to avoid condensation on the concrete surface as Primer X dries.
• Verify that the substrate is free of bond-inhibiting or bond-breaking materials such as curing compounds and dust.
• For use only in dry, interior environments. Do not apply on wet substrates.
• Do not dilute. Use at full strength for all applications.
SUITABLE SUBSTRATES
• Properly installed, 100%-solids, epoxy moisture barriers
• Epoxy and cement terrazzo
• Poured epoxy flooring
• Properly bonded VCT
• Sound and stable concrete substrates, whether smooth/nonporous or profiled/porous. Consult MAPEI's Technical Services Department for installation recommendations regarding any substrates and conditions not listed.
SURFACE PREPARATION
• All substrates must be structurally sound, dry, solid and stable.
• Thoroughly clean all surfaces of any substance that could interfere with the bond of the installation material, including dirt, paint, tar, asphalt, wax, oil, grease, latex compounds, sealers, curing compounds, form release agents, laitance, loose toppings, foreign substances and adhesive residues.
See the “Surface Preparation Requirements for Self-Leveling Underlayments” reference guide in the Related Documents section of the Floor Covering Installation Systems page on MAPEI’s Website.
MIXING
Before product use, take appropriate safety precautions.
Refer to the Safety Data Sheet for details.
• Primer X is ready to use; no dilution is required.
• Before use, shake in case any settling has occurred during shipment or storage.
PRODUCT APPLICATION
Read all installation instructions thoroughly before installation.
1. Do not pour Primer X directly on the subfloor. Use a paint tray and apply using a dip-and-roll method.
2. Apply product with a 1/4" (6 mm) nap roller. Ensure that the surface receives a complete, thin film of product. Do not over-apply or puddle Primer X, as this will have
a negative effect on drying time and potentially lead to poor bond performance.
3 An underlayment can typically be applied after 1 to 2 hours. Drying times will vary depending on porosity of surface, temperature and humidity.
4. As long as the surface of Primer X is clean and undamaged, there is no time limitation for underlayment application. If the cured Primer X surface becomes damaged or dirty, an additional thin coat may be applied.
CLEANUP
• Clean equipment immediately with water.
• Mineral spirits may be used to remove Primer X that has dried on tools.
